Commercial / Merrimack Valley

Commercial Electrical Services

I handle the electrical side of running a business: offices, retail shops, restaurants, and light commercial or industrial spaces across Lowell and the Merrimack Valley.

This isn’t large industrial work or high-voltage transmission. It’s the kind of job a business owner actually calls about, and I show up, do it properly, and keep your business running. This page covers commercial work specifically; if you’re looking for the full range of what I offer, start on the Services page.

Julio is one of the best contractors we’ve ever worked with! He always shows up when he says he will and does quality work. Therefore, we are extremely happy with all the work he did running the electrical for our basement finishing. He is also very professional! We truly enjoyed working with Julio and will use him for all our future electrical needs. Our dog also loved Julio as he often spoiled her with treats, pets, and toys. His kindness knows no bounds.

Do You Work With Older Commercial Buildings in the Merrimack Valley?

Yes, and it’s a big part of the work I do. A lot of the commercial space in this area, such as storefronts, small office buildings, and older retail strips, was wired decades ago for a different kind of business than what’s running in it now. Panels that were fine for a 1980s shop often can’t handle a modern kitchen buildout or a server closet.

If your building hasn’t had an electrical review in a while, it’s worth getting one before a problem finds you first.

Can You Install a Commercial EV Charger for My Business?

More businesses are adding EV charging for employees, customers, or fleet vehicles, and it’s worth doing right the first time. Utilities, including National Grid and Eversource currently help cover infrastructure upgrade costs for Level 2 commercial charging installs.

Costs vary a good amount depending on the site and how many ports you need. I’ll walk you through what your specific setup would actually cost before you commit to anything.

Do You Handle Emergency and Exit Lighting Code Compliance?

Yes. Massachusetts code requires emergency lighting along a means of egress to hold a minimum illumination level for a set duration after a power failure. That’s not the kind of thing you want to find out is wrong during an inspection. I install and service exit and emergency lighting so it actually meets code, not just looks like it does.

What Does Tenant Fit-Out Wiring Involve?

If you’re moving into an existing commercial space, the electrical work usually isn’t starting from scratch, but it’s rarely just plug-and-go either. I look at what’s already there: panel capacity, existing circuits, what the last tenant left behind. From there it’s outlets where you need them, lighting that fits how the space is used, and dedicated circuits for anything that draws real power: kitchen equipment, point-of-sale systems, server racks.

A restaurant needs different wiring than a retail shop, and a retail shop needs different wiring than an office. I plan around what your business actually does, not a generic template.

Lowell’s Historic Mill Buildings: Electrical Challenges and Solutions

Open commercial electrical distribution panel with feeder cables and busbar assembly

If your business is in a repurposed mill building, you already know these spaces have character, and electrical wiring that often predates modern safety codes. Many downtown Lowell properties were textile mills in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The thick brick walls can make running new conduit a challenge, and old knob-and-tube remnants or undersized panels from generations ago are still hiding in some buildings.

I’ve worked in quite a few of these structures across the Acre, Downtown, and along the Merrimack River. A typical project for me might involve upgrading a 200-amp panel to handle a modern restaurant kitchen, adding emergency egress lighting that meets Massachusetts fire code inside a warren of renovated rooms, or installing EV chargers in a parking lot that floods every March.

I know where to look for the quirks: abandoned subpanels, shared neutrals, and wiring that was fine when the space was a warehouse but not when it’s a busy retail shop. I’ll tell you upfront what needs to be fixed, what can stay, and what the permit office will want to see.

My approach never starts with ‘rip it all out.’ Instead, I look at what’s already there, respect the building’s history, and make the electrical system safe and reliable for your business today.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you work with restaurants and retail spaces?

Absolutely. Restaurants usually need dedicated circuits for kitchen equipment, fire suppression tie-ins, and ventilation. Retail spaces often need flexible lighting and reliable power for point-of-sale systems. I plan wiring specifically around your operation, not a generic template.

Are there any rebates for commercial EV charger installations in Massachusetts?

Yes. Both National Grid and Eversource offer Make Ready programs that can cover a significant portion of infrastructure costs for Level 2 commercial charging stations. I help you navigate the paperwork and ensure the install qualifies for available incentives.

What towns do you serve?

I serve Lowell and the surrounding Merrimack Valley towns including Chelmsford, Tewksbury, Dracut, Andover, Tyngsborough, and Billerica. If you’re just over the line, call and I’ll let you know if I can reach your location.

How soon can you start after a commercial estimate?

I typically schedule within one to two weeks for smaller commercial jobs. Larger tenant fit-outs may be booked further out. After the site visit, I give you a clear timeline and never start work without your approval and a signed proposal.

Ready to Get Your Business Wired Right?

Whether it’s a panel upgrade, a tenant fit-out, or getting your exit lighting up to code, I’ll give you a clear answer and a fair estimate.
